Detailed Program

Day 1 – Scoping + Specifications & Planning

1. Understanding the essence of a project
  • What is a project? Differences with a process
  • Key roles and responsibilities
  • Major families of methodologies (traditional, agile, hybrid)
  • Project life cycle and associated deliverables

Learning Objective: Identify what distinguishes a project from a recurring process and understand the different methodological approaches (traditional, agile, hybrid).

Workshop: Case study: analyze a real project from your environment to distinguish project vs. process.

2. Ideation / Pre-project
  • Identify an idea, a need, or an opportunity.
  • Preliminary studies: feasibility, estimated costs, expected benefits.
  • Decision to launch or not (business case).
  • Agile approach: build a product vision and a simplified initial backlog.

Learning Objective: Be able to assess the relevance and feasibility of an idea and decide whether to launch it as a project.

Workshop: Case study: build a mini-feasibility analysis and draft a simplified business case.

3. Scoping / General Design
  • Define scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Identify stakeholders and their needs.
  • Collaborative approach: gather requirements through co-construction with stakeholders.
  • Write a project brief or scoping document.
  • Develop the preliminary schedule, budget, and project organization.
  • Agile approach: express requirements as user stories.

Learning Objective: Be able to formalize the scope and requirements of a project and lay the foundation of a project brief.

Workshop: Build a synthetic project sheet + reformulate needs into clear objectives.

4. Specifications / Detailed Design
  • Translate needs into detailed requirements (functional, technical, quality).
  • Define intermediate deliverables.
  • Build the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and sequence tasks.
  • Detailed planning (workload, resources, milestones).
  • Agile approach: backlog prioritization and iteration (sprint) planning.

Learning Objective: Be able to transform needs into precise requirements and organize tasks within a structured plan.

Workshop: Build a WBS + mini-milestone schedule.

5. Planning & Preparation
  • Finalize the project management plan (schedule, budget, risks, communication).
  • Potential contracting with suppliers.
  • Build and mobilize the project team.
  • Agile approach: incremental release planning.

Learning Objective: Be able to build a global project plan and prepare for execution.

Workshop: Simulate a project management plan (schedule + simplified budget + communication plan).

Day 2 – Execution + Validation & Closure

6. Execution / Delivery
  • Development, construction, or production of deliverables.
  • Monitoring progress (dashboards, indicators, project reviews).
  • Managing resources, deadlines, costs, and quality.
  • Managing risks and changes.
  • Agile approach: iterative management with ceremonies (daily meetings, sprint reviews, retrospectives).

Learning Objective: Be able to manage an ongoing project, monitor its progress, and handle unforeseen events.

Workshop: Build a project dashboard + roleplay a project review.

7. Acceptance / Validation
  • Verification and testing of deliverables.
  • Acceptance by users/clients.
  • Corrections and adjustments.
  • Final validation of compliance with the project brief or specifications.
  • Agile approach: progressive validation of features at each sprint.

Learning Objective: Be able to organize and conduct a validation phase with users.

Workshop: Simplified acceptance checklist and user test scenarios.

8. Deployment / Go-live
  • Delivery of the final product to the client or end users.
  • Change management and training.
  • Project communication (internal/external).
  • Agile approach: incremental release to production, incorporating feedback.

Learning Objective: Successfully deliver the final product and support users in adoption.

Workshop: Build a deployment plan and a mini communication plan.

9. Closure / Capitalization
  • Final project review (technical, financial, organizational).
  • Lessons learned (LL).
  • Release of resources.
  • Final project closure report.
  • Agile approach: end-of-project retrospective to improve future practices.

Learning Objective: Be able to close a project and extract lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Workshop: Write a project summary sheet and facilitate a mini-retrospective.
